Hydra

The procession of the Epitaph is an event worth experiencing in Hydra. On Good Friday the Epitaph enters the sea to bless the waters. This custom was established in 1923, when it first took place in Kaminia.

Chios

On the island of Chios, Easter is known for the custom of “rocket war”. In Vrontado of Chios, two parishes, Agios Markos and Panagia Ereithiani, which are located opposite each other, launch countless homemade rockets on the night of the Resurrection, aiming at the bell tower of the “rival” church, offering the attendees an impressive spectacle.

Leonidio

In Leonidio, the local that takes place, fascinates every visitor. On the night of the Resurrection, hundreds of colorful hot-air balloons rise and flood the sky. Undoubtedly, this event is one of the most spectacular Greek Easter customs.

Corfu

Easter in Corfu stands out thanks to the two most famous customs, the “Botides” and the “Mastelo”. The ” Botides “, the huge claypots full of water and decorated with red ribbons, are thrown from the balconies of the inhabitants in Spianada Square and Liston, while cheerful music is heard from the island’s philharmonic orchestras. The “Mastelo”, which means barrel in Italian, is the second custom that is revived in Corfu. In “Pinia”, the old commercial center, a wooden barrel full of water and myrtles is located. Those who pass, throw coins in, making a wish. Shortly before the First Resurrection, someone falls into the barrel and collects the money while the event is accompanied by music from the city band.

Arta

In Arta, the custom of burning Judas is revived on the night of Holy Saturday. The children and the young people of the parish of Agia Theodora, after collecting old clothes, create the figure of Judas and hang it in the courtyard of the church to burn it after the Resurrection.
