Easy Greek Tzatziki Recipe

Greek tzatziki recipe

It smells like Greece. Are you a fan of  Greek tzatziki sauce?

It is simple to make! To make this irresistible recipe, all you need is cucumber, yogurt, garlic, olive oil, salt, and dill, as well as a little more than 15 minutes.

Serve it with vegetables, salads, pita bread, and grilled meat, as a starter, or as a side dish. You can even make a delicious vegan tzatziki by substituting dairy-free yogurt for Greek yogurt.

We are not experts, but the following simple and tried Greek recipe will definitely give a taste of Greece to your day wherever you are!

The Greek tzatziki recipe step by step

  • Peel a cucumber and grate it on a grater.
  • Add it to the bowl, after draining it with a towel to remove the moisture and prevent the tzatziki from becoming too watery. You can skip this step if you use strained yogurt. However, I would recommend squeezing and draining the cucumber for most commercial yogurts.
  • Add the mashed garlic (from 2 to 4 cloves depending on how “heavy” you want it).
  • Add a tablespoon of chopped dill and 2 tablespoons of vinegar.
  • Add as much salt and pepper as desired. Natural sea salt in flakes is even better!
  • At the end add 3-4 tablespoons of olive oil, mix well and garnish with an olive in the middle!

What foods go well with Greek tzatziki?

In Greece, we love serving it on a platter with vegetables like tomato salad and olives. Drizzle it over roasted vegetables like roasted bell peppers, oven-baked potatoes and zucchini. It usually accompanies grilled meat while it is the perfect dip with French fries and slices of pitta bread.

It is a fantastic starter because it can be used as a sauce or a dip to tie together various dishes.

Good luck and Βon appétit!!
