Eureka runs five programmes, all in person at our school near Sygrou-Fix in central Athens, seven minutes’ walk from the Acropolis Museum. The Intensive Courses are four hours a day, Monday to Friday, from €320 a week, and it’s our most-booked option. Private and Semi-Private lessons run on a schedule you set. Personalized Lessons for Advanced Learners go deeper into culture and conversation for students past B2. Ellinomatheia preparation is built around the official state exam, at every level from A1 to C2.
Every course covers all six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference, the European standard for describing language ability that runs from A1 (beginner) to C2 (mastery). Absolute beginners start on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month; every other level can start any Monday.

Modern Greek, the language spoken in Athens today, not the language of classical texts. Eureka doesn’t teach Ancient Greek, and if that’s what you’re looking for, we’re not the right school. Everything here, from the Intensive Course to the exam preparation, is built for someone who wants to order coffee, read a lease, or being able to have real, everyday conversations in Greek.

The Intensive Courses are four hours a day in a group of up to five people, enough for real conversation practice, small enough that nobody disappears into the back row. Private lessons are one-to-one and fully flexible; Semi-Private splits that same flexibility between two students who book together, at a 10% discount. If your schedule is fixed and you want the fastest progress in the shortest visit to Athens, Intensive is built for that. If you’re staying longer, working around a job, or want the pace built entirely around you, Private or Semi-Private will suit you better.
There’s no single answer, because it depends on how many hours per week you put in and how close your first language is to Greek, but the CEFR framework itself is built around six fixed levels, not a fixed timeline, precisely because progress varies that much by learner. What we can tell you concretely: our Intensive Courses run for 20 hours per week, which is enough for most beginners to move through a full level in three to four weeks of steady attendance.
Greek uses a different alphabet and has grammar (cases, verb aspects) that English speakers don’t have shortcuts for, so it’s harder than picking up French or Spanish if English is your only other language, but it’s not unusually difficult by world standards, and the alphabet itself takes most students under a week to read comfortably. What actually determines your pace is time in the room speaking it, not talent.
The best way to learn Greek in Athens is to learn it in Athens, in a small class, with a teacher who corrects you in real time, and then to go use it the same afternoon. That’s the whole design of the Intensive Courses: four hours in a group of five, then a taverna dinner or a museum visit where the city itself becomes the next lesson. An app or a video course can teach you vocabulary anywhere; it can’t put you at a table with four other students and a teacher who won’t let a mistake slide, and it can’t send you out the door to order lunch in the language you just practiced.
Eureka is on Vourvachi 22 & Michail Kokkini 2, on the Koukaki and Neos Kosmos border, a 10-minute walk (650m) from Sygrou-Fix metro station, and 7 minutes’ walk (450m) from the Acropolis Museum. If you’re already living in Athens, we’re a short metro ride from most central neighbourhoods; if you’re arriving from abroad, the school is easy to reach from the airport by metro.
The Intensive Courses is €320 per week, plus a one-off €45 registration fee that includes our own teaching material, the “From Alpha to Omega” eBook. Book more weeks and the price per week drops, 5 to 15% off for longer bookings, 10% off if you book with one other student, 15% off for three or more at the same level. There’s no hidden add-on: the price you see is the price you pay.
Yes, but they’re built for a different purpose. The Municipality of Athens runs Migrant Integration Centres offering free Greek classes at A1–A2 level to migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers, and several NGOs in the city run similar free programmes for the same population. If you’re moving to Athens for work, a relationship, or retirement rather than through the asylum system, Eureka is built for you instead: five students per class, a schedule that starts on your timeline, and a teacher whose job is you, not a wider social mission. Both are legitimate paths, they’re just answering different needs.
